#STLFW: Midwest Fashion Conference

by Lace Nguyen

Fashion as a Civic Agenda Recap

Saturday morning a swellegant crew of fashion insiders, bloggers and entrepreneurs gathered in Steinberg Auditorium at Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University to partake in the Midwest Fashion Conference - first of its kind and also the last official event during St. Louis Fashion Week. Coffee and breakfast were generously offered (to cure any bad case of hangover from last night’s St. Louis Fashion Fund Gala), after which the conference kickstarted with a panel discussion on “Fashion as a Civic Agenda”, hosted by the legendary Fern Mallis, Creator of New York Fashion Week.

The panelists included Stan Herman (Former CFDA Executive Director), Gary Wassner (CEO of Hilldun Corporation), Timo Weiland (Fashion Designer) and Derek Blasberg (Harper’s Bazaar Editor-at-Large and such a heart-throb). Under the topic of civic agenda, Wassner pointed out that “we’re seeing an integration of government, political and social organizations into fashion weeks”, stressing that fashion is one of the most sustainable and profitable industries, one with constant demand and an ever-evolving workforce to benefit the city and keep the community involved.

Citing examples from the early days of NYFW and the CFDA Fashion Incubator Program when they managed to find funding, marketing, and mentorship, Herman and Mallis encouraged St. Louis to do the same and reach out to financiers who can directly benefit from the fashion week activities. Those are not only fashion companies but also magazines, city administration and local entrepreneurs.

Derek Blasberg discussed the revival of “bought in America, made in America” clothing status, elevating it to a lifestyle. Weiland agreed with Blasberg and also looked at it from a designer’s viewpoint: Timo Weiland’s manufacturing process just moved back to New York from China, which he found “so much more fulfilling” thanks to the ability to supervise from A to Z, better quality and less returning rate; however, there’s limited space in New York and if St. Louis, equally distant from east and west coasts, could provide manufacturing facilities that would be our crucial step to become the next fashion hub.

About the next step for fashion entrepreneurs, Wassner echoed Mallis in her advice “be nice”, but looked at it from the perspective of a financier who always has a myriad of options to consider. He urged everyone to be sincere, never be entitled, make friends and create long-lasting relationships. Wassner’s second advice is to raise awareness of the value of local manufacturing, which in turns would change consumer attitude about local shopping.

The highlight of the discussion came during Q&A when Designer Susan Barrett - read more about this fabulous woman here -  with amusement rather than bitterness, posed the questions that had been sitting at the back of everyone’s mind, regarding the so-called St. Louis inferiority complex. “I mean we still talk about the World’s Fair”, she said, “I put on a show last year and people said ‘I can’t believe this is from St. Louis’”.  The audience imploded.

Comments about unused resources and a lack of cohesion in the fashion scene started to pour forth. The panel, again, affirmed that St. Louis had everything to create a “cool, fashionable atmosphere”, rounding off with Fern Mallis’ proposing the campaign hashtag #STLOUISISALIVE (sounds awfully comical to me), which would be deeply appreciated by Elizabeth Tucker and her wonderful team at ALIVE Magazine. Hats off to them for putting together such an insightful and inspiring conversation.

PORT +: Alice on Acid in PUMP Magazine

by June Ann D'Angelo

Lately, there has been much talk behind-the-scenes as to possibly branding our own editorial publication down the road. With that being said, we wanted to start styling and producing some of our own work. 'Alice on Acid' was, literally, what started it all. A failed photoshoot that left a bunch of creative individuals scratching their head and saying "we could definitely do this better" was all that was needed to ignite the fire that became geminijunemoon! We hope in the future to have others submit their work to us so that we can put it on the moon as well!

Publication Cover

This first geminijunemoon fashion editorial titled, 'Alice on Acid' and features founder, June Ann D'Angelo as model, was published in issue #14 of PUMP Magazine in October 2014. Our entire team at geminijunemoon worked so hard on this amazing production! You can purchase a copy of this issue by clicking here. We shot this editorial at locations around St. Louis and used wardrobe designs by Lauren Nicole Bander and accessories by Beltshazzar Jewels! Although PUMP only decided to use 4 of the images from this editorial in their issue, we will be releasing our full version of this editorial tomorrow on the November full moon (November 6), so make sure to check back and share it! Also make sure to head over to PUMP's facebook page here and give it a like!

Great job geminijunemoon team!!!

#STLFW: Emerging Designer's Competition

Written by Lace Nguyen

Digital Design by Keleka Mobley

In case you missed the entire extravaganza that happened during the #STLFW Emerging Designer Competition at Union Station...here is what you need to know to talk about these 6 designer-turned-competitors like a fashion connoisseur.

(Courtesy of Christopher Gibbons)

Daniella Kallmeyer

It takes an artist’s virtuosity to dress up the #girlgang models with the sobriety and nonchalance of boys. Against the music backdrop of throbbing drum rolls that reminds us of Stravinsky’s modern masterpiece Rite of Spring, Daniella Kallmeyer showed us how she collapsed the planes of primitive aesthetics and modern minimalism into this winning collection (click here).

Wai Ming

Emily Koplar’s celebration of romance flourishes through coral pink marble prints, draping silhouettes and hemlines that swirl around the ankles while her models sashay with the uttermost poise of a baroness. The Wai Ming SS15 collection brought onto stage an exodus of feminine finesse, one that exudes an air of effortless elegance her brand has long been famous for. Browse through her other collections at WaiMingStudio.com.

Jessie Liu

This collection drips youthful exuberance, each look mesmerizes the audience with a mosaic of bold colors and natural forms that are distorted and looked at through a kaleidoscope. Jessie Liu’s looks burst forth with psychedelic dispositions, featuring vivaciously colorful, va va voom striped pants and raglan sleeve coats, all the while maintaining an almost perfect, Rorschach-inkblot symmetry. See more of her SS15 collections here or on Vogue UK here.

Collina Strada

Started out designing the chic-est handbags you could ever spot at Coachella, Hillary Taymour a.k.a THE It-girl of Williamsburg won the hearts of all show-goers this year (I clapped fanatically for Hillary and her dog Pow Wow). Collina Strada’s collection blurs all borders between structured, sportswear-inspired outfits and bohemian chic dresses, combining leather with sheer, psychedelic print with minimal monotone while giving the collection a little luxe edge (think black leather bralette and sheer-back T-shirt dress). Get your cool-girl leather fix and shop her collection here.

Remi Canarie

Just when we were all in awe at landscape prints, bold brushstrokes with various shades of blue and ornate embroidery, the collection brought forth clean, monotone outfits that are imbued with subtle innuendos in their sheer illusion details, bare midriff and bold cuts. Drop-dead gorgeous with her turquoise cat-eye makeup, the Remi Canarie woman lured us all with her seductive demureness. Click here to see more.

HARBISON

Harbison took the runway by STORM, evoking the most applause from the audience and eventually won the surprise Runner-up Award from STLFW. Twelve looks from his collection exude the aristocratic extravaganza that makes us all sentimental about the 60s (can we talk about the oh-so-tilted glitter hats? And red pairs of lips? And...). This Parsons graduate designer has gone a long way from his collection at STLFW last year, surprising us all by lacing the women’s structured suits with metallic zipper, crystals on floral 3D details and (gasp) oversized fur clutches...Indulge yourself.

MEET OUR INTERNS: Lace Nguyen - Washington University in St. Louis

by June Ann D'Angelo

I think I have hit the intern jackpot with Lace Nguyen from Washington University in St. Louis! This lady is the epitome of cool. She has already jumped on board full-force and even was able to attend some of the #STLFW events! She will be joining the geminijunemoon team to cover some events and creating her very own weekly 'street style' report the blog. Just read her bio (under the intern section on the team page, here) and that will, without a doubt, keep you on the look out for any article of which her name is attached! Definitely keep your eye out for this one, because she is going to take the world by storm!

#STLFW: Well Dressed Midwest VIP Bloggers Lounge

by June Ann D'Angelo

This kickoff event at #STLFW for the Well Dressed Midwest group was definitely a big hit with the bloggers. Drinks flowed freely and delicious nibblets were constantly being replenished! It was also my first time to really get to meet more of my fellow bloggers and also make introductions with some new brands! Here's a few of the highlights!

As with all #STLFW events, the staff makes sure that you feel like royalty! You are always greeted and ushered to the main event!

First stop was the check-in table.

For this event, I donned my brand new #bythepeople printed dress and green button down with a pair of Baker's boots and one of my favorite hats from one of my go-to spots in NYC (Earl's Beer and Cheese)!!!

For this event, I donned my brand new #bythepeople printed dress and green button down with a pair of Baker's boots and one of my favorite hats from one of my go-to spots in NYC (Earl's Beer and Cheese)!!!

After checking in, I headed over to get my goodie bag and Shine On shirt at the #STLFW table!

I made sure to grab an inaugural 'Well Dressed Midwest' shirt! I'm so excited to get involved with this organization and learn how to take my blogging to the next level!

I kinda fell in love with Meero Mani Nails! You can get sets in 2 different sizes and then they adhere to your nail by a little sticky tab. So, it is the perfect accessory to throw on with any outfit without committing to acrylics. I can't wait to use these when styling shoots!

Meero can make your nails in any shape or color. You can get them completely customized for a particular outfit or event! This pair was one of my favorites!

Next, I was enamored like a kindergartener with ADHD by these blingy little arm tattoos that everyone was getting...obviously I had to partake!

Turns out they are called Flash Tattoos and you can get them at Glik's!

The tattoos ranged in different shades of metallics...from golds to silvers...and the designs were super trendy...especially if you have a bohemian sense of style like myself!

They even have designs that you can make into bracelets or a fun forehead piece!

I got this gold one that says 'J'aime La Vie'!

But then, I decided that tattoo was lonely...I needed another one! So, I got this big beautiful gold flower placed above it! Right now, I'm on day 6 for this tattoo and it just started to wear on day 4-5. If you don't scrub it off, it lasts for a good bit!

So, I obviously had to know where I could get more of these! They sell them at Glik's or you can get them online at www.gliks.com! They come in packs that contain 4 sheets and cost around $25-$35! Not bad for a temporary accessory!

After getting my Flash Tattoos, I headed over to the Glik's table! I was pretty astonished to find out that they were celebrating 117 years! That's crazy!

Here is one of their advertisements from 1934 that they had on display!

I kinda fell in love with some of these ponchos and sweaters! Perfect for layering in the winter!

Next, I headed over to our friend, Suzanne Ley's table and talked with Shannon Dougherty about the new winter collection! Here at the moon, we are constantly impressed by the inspiration, conception and construction of anything with a Suzanne Ley label!

The winter 2014 collection was inspired by the 3 co-owners trip to Seattle! This is... A COLLECTION!!! I'm always so impressed by the cohesion of each piece within any of the Suzanne Ley's collections and this one does not let you down. I even got to sneak a peek of their lookbook which features local St. Louis model, Ellie Holtman, that translates the Suzanne Ley brand perfectly!

I also had to go stop by the Notch station to see my girls Megan Gad and Kate Clark! These ladies just did hair and makeup for a runway show I was in and I fell in love with them and this salon. Definitely worth stopping by if you are tired of your old drab salon and want to go somewhere that is trendy but comfortable! Megan also gave me a sample of Prive' dry shampoo and I am in love! I think it is even better than the Kevin Murphy dry shampoo that I was using before!

While I was talking to the ladies from Notch, the chef at Scape decided to give us a little leftovers straight from the kitchen. He quickly plated up some delicious ratatouille on top of some creamed potatoes and dressed perfectly! It was absolutely yummy, just like all the other dishes we sampled!

After the event ended, a bunch of the bloggers headed over to Brennan's to enjoy some socializing over a few more drinks! It was so nice to finally get to talk at length with some of the bloggers that were constantly popping up in my news feeds on social media! Collaborations and friendships have definitely been sparked at this #STLFW!

#STLFW: Neiman Marcus Fashion Chat and Presentation

by June Ann D'Angelo

ALIVE Magazine definitely set the tone at this opening event for STLFW...a tone of class, sophistication and fierce fashion! This was my second event to attend at Neiman Marcus and they never disappoint as a host. You know you will always have an endless amount of cocktails at the open bar and some of the tastiest little treats on this side of the Mississippi! And can we mention the major fashion moments of the evening? MAJOR!!! It was so great to hear from 3 huge names in fashion... Lisa Freede, Audrey McLoghlin for Frank & Eileen and Jonathan Simkhai! Here are some of my favorite moments from the evening...

P.S. If you see anything you really like, head on over to Neiman Marcus who features these three brands!!!

With my fancy #STLFW signature cocktail and tasty layered cupcake dessert in hand, I was ready to snag a spot to watch the presentation!

The scene was set and the crowd was packed! About 150 people were in attendance for this event!!! All seats were full and this was definitely a standing room only! I was lucky to find a spot right at the end of the runway!

SPOTTED: St. Louis FGI President, Ellen Soule...can you find her?

After Elizabeth Tucker, editor of Alive Magazine, introduced the evening and gave a heartfelt message about her involvement in fashion, a representative from COCA was there to tell us about the amazing beneficiary for this event! By the end of the night, the event had raised over $6000 for COCA!!!

Introduction of designers: Lisa Freede, Audrey McLoghlin from Frank & Eileen and Jonathan Simkhai

LISA FREEDE: Rihanna is a favorite client of Lisa Freede!!!

LISA FREEDE: I am in love with these large link chains that come in different shades of metal. Perfectly on point for fall accessory trends!

FRANK & EILEEN: Of course, I love the casual comfort that Frank & Eileen throw in your face!

FRANK & EILEEN: We also love the 'permanent wrinkle' in the line's series of button downs...anything to keep me from ironing!

JONATHAN SIMKHAI: I fell in love with the silhouette of this dress and love the black and white choice for color...or lack therof...

JONATHAN SIMKHAI: This dress has been worn by the infamous Kim Kardashian.

SPOTTED: Fellow blogger and MOONCULT MEETUP co-organizer, Laura Heying (weirdcult.com), has perfected the drink and snap! Make sure to check out her blog for all things weird and awesome!

SPOTTED: I'm in love with the fabric on these lace up flats that some fashionista was wearing!

SPOTTED: This oversized animal hide tote definitely caught my eye!

Lisa Freede's jewelry on display at #CUSP in Neiman Marcus! Even you can style yourself like Rihanna with one quick trip!

Audrey McLoghlin stuck around and talked to guests about her Frank & Eileen line!

Thanks Neiman Marcus for the amazing gift that I won for tweeting!!!

When I opened up my gift, I was pleasantly surprised! Normally you win a pen or a sticker...not at Neiman Marcus...you win Kate Somerville! I've already started using the products and LOVE them!

Overall, I was definitely impressed with the event as a whole!!! Thanks Neiman Marcus!

#STLFW - Ready, Set, Go...

by June Ann D'Angelo

The kickoff party was a few days ago, but yesterday we kicked off the first fashion event for #STLFW! This is my first STLFW, so I really wanted to bring it! So, yesterday, I spent the day (outside of trying not to blow up the lab I work in) finalizing my outfit for the first night of festivities at Neiman Marcus and getting my hair-do switched up a bit. This to the right was my raw material. My starting material was raw...super raw...headed to my hairstylist in my favorite old oversized Roots sweatshirt (shout out to my Canadian friends) and Free People cut offs topped off with boots from my new favorite boot company, Bakers! I was ready to be ready and get this STLFW on!!!

I decided to wear a dress that was going to require my most uncomfortable pair of heels, as per wickedwallflower's suggestion! (Thanks for creating a blog post with style tips for each event, Sarah Stallman!) I actually received the dress from eShakti (www.eShakti.com), which is a really cool online boutique that has millions of styles (boho to classy, young to old) from sizes 0-36! Not only do they offer awesome styles, you can customize any of the choices. So, you can choose to add a sleeve or cut your dress into a mini or make it into a maxi! Even more awesome, is you will get your custom made dress in about 2-3 weeks! I have to say that I was not expecting much because this is definitely an every-woman company, but they execute that philosophy extremely well!

The dress that I picked had this amazing forest pattern on the dress that I thought was super forward and bold. As with anything you order, the fit is always the first concern! When I ordered the dress, I closely followed the sizing guidelines. I am a 33-34C/D-24-34.5 and I went with a size 2, which put my bust right at 33 and the waist and hips were an inch or so bigger. But, I knew the bust was the most important measurement with the style of dress that I was receiving. I had 3 sleeve options: cap sleeve, mid-sleeve or a full sleeve and I went with a cap sleeve so that I could wear this in any season. For the length of dress, I had 3 options as well: mini, knee length or maxi. Although on my 5'3" frame, I am partial to a mini cut, I went ahead and went with the knee length, because of the pattern on the lower portion of the dress and I did not know where the pattern would be cut for the mini version. (And, you can always take away, but you can never add!)

So, I have a dress...now I need the perfect hair. So, on a whim, I called my ombre' expert, Kristen Parks, and told her that I needed to see her ASAP! I told her that I wanted a super blunt cut and the bottom inch of that cut to be fire orange. Of course, mama worked her voodoo magic and custom mixed my root touch-up color and the color for my ends and gave me exactly what I wanted. Sometimes when I change up my hair color, I can be at the salon for up to 6 hours, but this was a quickie! I was out of the salon in under 2 hours! I don't even know how this is possible, but it is!

Now, it's time to get dressed! After trying the dress on, I could not ask for a better fit! The material is super heavy-duty. I felt like I could work all day in this dress and then take it for a ride at a cocktail party that same day. The stitching and hem work is also totally on point! I was not super excited about the cap sleeve or cut of the neckline of the dress...I wish this dress had a halter top or strapless option and, if I could have either of those, then i would have gotten the maxi skirt option! So, to draw less attention to that neckline and cap sleeve, I threw on a long black cardigan that I've had in my closet for some time. And I had just received this amazing Ella hat from the Christy's collection with Free People, so I HAD to wear that! Anything from Free People gets worn the same day immediately as I get it! Topped off with a pair of nude lace up booties and I was ready for my first #STLFW event! Off to Neiman Marcus I go...

MOON BEAUTY: The Hair Wash

by Kristen Parks

As a hair stylist, I see so many clients who come in embarrassed because their hair is “sooo dirty.” My response is always the same… “oh shh! I haven’t washed my hair in a week!”

So lets talk hair washing… or lack of… schedules! There are so many factors that should play into how often you wash your hair. I realize that this may seem like a silly concept to some, not washing your hair every day, but I promise it can change your life!

Hair color, texture, style, health and lifestyle are all things that I talk to my clients about when it comes to hair washing.

We all know that color fades over time. With every wash a little more of your trip to the salon washes down the drain… literally. But what if you wash less frequently? The life of your color will be extended, that’s what! Especially that vibrant red or fresh darker fall color!

To add onto that theory, what other product life would be extended by less frequent washings? Your shampoo and conditioner! That’s right, those precious bottles of gold in your shower will last you so much longer. Now if we are using less shampoo, that means we are buying less frequently. Most of my clients complained that as much as they love professional products, they use it quicker than it is worth. However, I believe that if you’re using your shampoo properly and, hopefully now, less of it your shampoo and conditioners life should be MONTHS not weeks!!!

If I were to give instructions on how to “properly” wash your hair, this would be it. Of course everyone has their own thoughts and opinions, but mine come from a lot, and I mean A LOT, of product knowledge classes from many different brands, a solid education, and continuing education.

-       cooler water is the best water! As cool as you can handle! (This is editor, June Ann's favorite...haha!!!)

-       start by making sure the hair is completely saturated with water, we want all the hair spray and product loosened up and our hair to be wet. Shampoo lather comes from the moisture in the hair (some high-end products will need more water to be added in order to later)!

-       use a small quarter (if that) size amount of shampoo and first lather it up between your hands

-       only scrub the scalp! That’s where the majority of the dirtiness is found...the shampoo being rinsed out will take care of the rest of your hair, I promise!

-       rinse thoroughly with the cool water

-       very carefully wring out some of the moisture in your hair. Your hair is most fragile when wet, so we want to be extra careful

-       using a quarter size amount of conditioner, apply from the ends up. You do NOT need to put conditioner directly onto the scalp. Your scalps' natural oils will take care of that

-       rinse thoroughly again with cool water, if you think you’ve gotten it all out, keep rinsing for another minute longer just in case

-       blot your hair carefully with a towel. No crazy wringing out, aggressive shaking the towel all over the head, etc

-       my FAVORITE brush to use after washing is the Wet Brush! This brush detangles gently and is an amazing tool for preventing damage while wet!

“But my hair gets so greasy after just a day…” Ahh yes. I’ve heard this time and again, but I can promise that hair life does get better with time! I always tell my clients to start slow and work within their own comfort. Meaning if you need to start by washing every other day...do just that! Work your way up to your goal length of time. Maybe after a week, try washing every few days. After that week, add another day. Your scalp will adjust with you to your new wash schedule!

But to help you get to that point, here are couple tips and products I recommend!

-       natural bristle brush: this will help distribute the oils from scalp to ends, conditioning your ends and making you feel less greasy up top

-       dry shampoo: my personal favorite is Alterna Mango Dry Shampoo. It’s in a powder form, so no drying aerosols, and it also doubles as a texturizing powder for that perfect lived in look!

-       nailing down a style routine: I know this sounds time consuming, but really I think it saves time! Once you’ve figured out how your hair is, which day is your best day (mine is ALWAYS day 3 hair), how well your hair styles when dirty, etc you can pick a perfect routine. I’ll give you mine as an example. Day 1 is straight hair, Day 2 is messy, lived in, volume straight hair, Day 3 is curled with a wand hair, Day 4 is left over waves, and if I get to day 5 and 6 I just touch up my waves as needed.

Finally let’s really talk about products. I am what many hair stylists call a product junkie. I love to know the uses, benefits, ingredients, the why, the how and the secrets to all the products I use regularly. I try to use products that are lighter and work well with a wash schedule as well as non drying.

My favorite shampoo and conditioner is the Awaphui Wild Ginger line from Paul Mitchell. It’s their “luxury line” which means better ingredients, and a slightly higher price. However if we are washing less and using the right amounts, we should be getting months out of these bottles which makes it a much better value. I, personally, love the smell. I’m not into strong smells. I love that it’s a light, fresh smell that doesn’t linger heavily. The Moisture Lather Shampoo works best with lots of moisture. If you don’t feel its lathering enough, do NOT add more product! Simply let a little water run into the hair and try again. Works every time. The Cream Rinse, or conditioner, is again, light but its packed full of beautiful moisture. It detangles beautifully, is sulfate free, and protects against color fade. Both these products combined with not washing every day seriously improve the health of hair, in my own personal experience as well as with my clients.

Heat Protectant, often forgotten and left out, but a key part in this process! The natural oils in your hair will act as a defense against heat. But I like to ensure that my hot tools don’t stress my hair anymore than needed with a great heat protectant. My favorite is  Cat Walk Sleek Mystique. It’s a spray, that proves heat protection as well as shine! It smells great, so I can use it to protect or just to add a little freshness back into my style.

Bedhead After Party is another awesome product! It’s super light weight and as so many uses! You can put After Party in damp hair for a smooth blow dry, you can use it in dry hair to tame frizzies, you can use it as a deodorizer for those mornings after a workout or a night out on the town, and so many others. I use this in almost all of my updos and almost all of clients for a smooth, shiny, look. If you like that texturized, lived in look this product can still be for you! Like I said, it can deodorize so I would use tiny amounts near the roots and on the very ends to extend the style just a little further!

Your hair is one of the first things people see. Your hair is a reflection of your personality. Your hair is an investment. We want our hair to look it’s best, feel it’s best and to protect our investment in it. These simple steps can help do all of the above, save us money, and even maybe save us some time each day! So like I said, start slow and take your time, but let’s start getting ourselves on the right track!

If you try out any tips from this blog, please let us know how it works for you! I’d love to know what you got out of it, whether its healthier hair, less product use, etc! Email us at geminijunemoon@gmail.com!

Note from the editor, June Ann: I have the finest hair and I was always one of those people that washed my hair once, if not twice a day up until I started seeing Kristen a few years ago. Now, following Kristen's advice on washing and products, my color lasts and my hair stays healthy despite the processing!

MOON TUNES: whiteowljaguar

by Rebecca-Emma Pink

whiteowljaguar plugs in to transport the human into alternate space and ancient, carnal “deep time.” The duo’s sounds and environments shake away the extraneous, revealing the raw.

Assembled in 2012, Tyler Vigil and Rebecca-Emma Kaplan (Dollpartz) blended sounds to produce whiteowljaguar and Talon&Claw Productions, an initiative to expel the mundane through virile vibrations and inspired genuine presence.

Vigil, whose ten years of DJing has dipped his hands and ears in genres from breaks to minimal and beyond, uses his architectural mind to build sound that molds space and towers over: sound to behold. A lifelong relationship with percussion lays his framework; his designed roar brings chambers of depth to the whiteowljaguar sound and Talon&Claw vision.

The newer ear of Dollpartz brings the electro-pop-culture influence of her time and the bows, lollipops, and balloons of her heart. With a taste for girlie vocals and deep, dirty, hooting night owl bass, she blends the light and dark to aim at the authentic.

The Talon&Claw production instigates mobility- a dig deep inside and a great reach outward, an active celebration of truth and joy. It is a mission to bring the best new, underground electronic music to New York City.

EVENT REVIEW: See the World in 60 Minutes by Empress Consulting

by June Ann D'Angelo

WHAT: See the World in 60 Minutes by Empress Consulting

WHERE: Ritz-Carlton (100 Carondelet Plaza)

WHEN: September 28, 2014

After receiving my press kit, I was really excited to attend this event. Mostly, because I received a press kit. This is something that I wish more production companies would do for the bloggers that they invite. The press kit was carefully planned with the theme and we each received passports and our boarding passes to match the appropriately titled 'See the World in 60 Minutes' fashion presentation. I only wish that in these packets, we would have been supplied with designer information about the garments that were shown. I did receive information on the new business, Empress Consulting LLC, that was producing the event and provides human resource and development training and has even contracted 2 local models under their name.

Arriving at a venue like the Ritz-Carlton, which is definitely a step above the run-of-the-mill runway shows that we see in Saint Louis, the tone was set for an elegant evening of fashion and class. After checking in, you were invited to grab some amazing lite bites that had this foodie saying, "more please"! These delicious bites were a nice treat and definitely a highlight of the evening for me, unlike the cash bar. You also saw that everyone was dressed extremely sophisticated. Not the most fashion-forward crowd was in attendance, but the bloggers and fashion editors in the audience definitely helped out in that category. So at this point my belly was full and the tone was set...I was ready to get ushered to my seat.

The actual space for the runway show was a huge ballroom in the Ritz-Carlton with a raised runway down the middle that was flanked on both sides with 3 rows of chairs. As the room filled, it was clear that the seats would not be filled, therefore, I feel the last row of seats should have been removed and everyone moved up to the first two rows. It was also confusing why the bloggers were all placed in the second row when the front row was not filled. Even though the plane was not full, we all enjoy a little extra leg room from time to time, however this should not be the case for a fashion show. I was, however, excited to be seated next to #STLFW Blogger Award winner, Laura Heying from weirdcult.com. We were all seated and ready for lift-off...time for the show to begin.

As the show started, you were hit with dramatic music and fog coming from backstage and I was beginning to get excited, because it's FASHION time! This excitement was quickly deflated. Although I love drama, I felt that the house lights could have been dimmed on the side so that the drama of the environment matched the drama of what was trying to be created on the runway. As models started to walk the runway, it was clear why this show would take 60 minutes...because the models were walking painfully slow. So slow that only a couple models could actually pull off the walk and make it look fluid. I did not get their names, but I did post their looks from the show below, because kudos to them (to the right and below). Their ankles never waivered, their shoulders were back and they had a perfectly blank yet pleasant gaze about them. A slow walk is hard to master. Most of the models had slight balance checks or looked off the runway or even looked down. I had not seen that in a show in quite some time. Although I only posted video from the final looks, which were regularly paced...imagine that those walks were at 1/4th of the speed of the walks from the final looks.

Now let's talk fashion... So, the show was set up using dresses and fashion from around the world. There were Indian- and African-inspired looks mixed in with different styles of dresses. The 3 segments of the show (videos posted below) were clearly divided by color scheme and we saw many of the same looks repeated in a different color family. This added to the tension, but not the drama. Especially when the designers were not even mentioned or highlighted, did we really need to see the same look in 3 different colors...especially with walks so slow. I would only want to see walks that slow on a designer such as Alexander McQueen where I cannot get enough of the detail on the artistic designs.

Overall, the highlight of the evening for myself was the styling. The complete looks were well thought out and the jewelry really elevated those looks. My absolute favorite was the amazing clutches that the models carried down the runway designed by Cameo de Bore (website). I loved each and every funky clutch that walked down the runway so much that I had to go visit the vendor booth and meet the owner who was as sweet as a peach! Her clutches are all reasonably priced ($40-$60) so make sure to visit her facebook page and find out where she's selling her designs. They would absolutely make the perfect present as the Christmas season comes upon us.

For a first show, overall Empress Consulting LLC did a great job. They put a decent foot forward and I am excited to see what the Empress brings to us in the future. They definitely are able to pull the resources together to throw an amazing show, so the potential is endless. Make sure to check out their facebook page (website) and give them a like!

MOON STYLE: #LFW

As we continue to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall, we look forward to what S/S 2015 has in store for ourselves. Here we have reviewed some of our favorite looks from London Fashion Week!

MOON STYLE: WWW (what we're wearing)

by June Ann D'Angelo

I'm in love with my outfit today, so I thought I would share! I managed to find the most perfect pair of white cut-off denim shorts at Blue Bird Boutique in the Loop this past weekend for only $7! That is one reason worth breaking the 'no white after Labor Day' rule! I paired them with a staple black dress shirt I had in my closet and then topped it off with a headband from Austin Warren, which is also in the Loop!

MOON BEAUTY: Chemical Peels

by Kait Walker

The weather will soon be changing as we say "Goodbye Summer" and "Helloooo Fall"! As an aesthetician, this my favorite time of year and the perfect time to really focus on any skin concerns we’re having. This is when I recommend starting a series of chemical peels.

So, what is a chemical peel? Putting it simply, a chemical peel is a treatment using an acid solution to remove the damaged outer layers of skin. Peels help with a number of concerns; almost any, really! Giving you a beautiful, healthy glow. The most common concerns my clients have that I recommend peels for are hyperpigmented, acne prone, congested, aging or lackluster skin. Although, peels are great for nearly everyone!

There are different kinds of chem peels ranging from certain percentages of salicylic acid and glycolic acid, to customizable blended acids. (all of which will be chosen by your licensed skin care provider!) I have taken the steps to get certified in PCA skin chemical peels and so I recommend these when I can. I love PCA peels because there are extremely customizable with corrective serums ideal for each individual and their concerns and also offer amazing results.
