meet Claire Oliver Fuller

Claire Oliver Fuller with 'Alice on Acid' model June Ann D'Angelo after having her hair styled.

Today I get to introduce you to our first creative team member, Claire Oliver Fuller. This is one special lady. I have not known Claire for long at all, but the instant I met her, I knew I was meeting not only an uber-creative hair stylist, but also a life-long best friend. Claire was responsible for creating an amazing style for our 'Alice on Acid' shoot that perfectly matched the creative direction that was envisioned. Along with being technically brilliant and completely out of the box creatively, she is also one of the most self-motivated and driven women that I know. She has already taken on a huge task of recreating and updating Marie Antoinette hair looks for our second editorial campaign. Make sure to check out her bio and booking info here and go update your look by getting a fresh style created especially for you by the one and only Claire Oliver Fuller.

JUNE'S MOON: Home Page and Interns

June's Moon is a weekly update of everything geminijunemoon from founder, June Ann D'Angelo.

Rad flower resident hair stylist, Claire Oliver Fuller, bought for founder, June Ann D'Angelo, after seeing first glimpse of images from our first editorial production, 'Alice on Acid'.

geminijunemoon is going crazy with exciting news this week! I just saw the first images from our first editorial campaign production titled 'Alice on Acid' and I am completely freaking out!  When I started this production company on a whim a couple weeks ago, I felt this could be the start of something great, but had no idea what I was getting myself into. The one thing I knew is that I wanted to create and produce interesting images with boundary-pushing talent located right here in St. Louis. Somehow the most brilliant creative team members literally fell out of the sky and landed straddled right on my lap and ready to give me the most amazing lap dance of my life...geminijunemoon! I definitely feel like the magic of our team translated through these images and I could not be more proud of everyone involved!  So many people worked on this amazing project and I can not wait to submit it for publication to see where it is placed, so that I can share it with you!

Photographer: Tuck Chaylor                             Model: June Ann

Wardrobe: Victrola                    Stylist: Dwight Carter/June Ann

I also just updated our home page with images from our very own resident photographer, Tuck Chaylor. These were shot the night before our big editorial shoot with pink swimsuit bottoms and a printed kimono from Victrola, a St. Louis-based clothing line from designer Lauren Cram that was pulled by our resident wardrobe stylist, Dwight Carter. I decided to pair these items with a brown sheer Simone Perele bra and layer some different gold- and bronze-toned necklaces to top off the look. Minimal smudged make-up and natural hair was chosen to match Tuck's signature gritty style in a way that transformed these flirty feminine wardrobe choices into heroin-chic overdrive! To say the least...#obsessed!!! I can not contain my excitement to know that Tuck Chaylor is on the geminijunemoon team! I really think these first images explain exactly why Tuck was our choice...interesting, raw, skilled talent.

Today and throughout this week, I will be interviewing college kids for our first crop of interns. This really motivates me. It was not too long ago that I was in college and had dreams of becoming a budding scientist and latched on to any lab or professor that would talk with me and potentially guide me in the direction of my dreams. (Yep, I'm a scientist in my real life...and everything else in my dream life!) I really hope that through geminijunemoon, I can provide a unique learning opportunity for young people interested in the fashion world in any aspect. I am interviewing candidates from universities across the nation and I am already stunned by the resumes that are coming past my desk...Savannah College of Art and Design, University of Alabama, Florida State University...and we are even starting to get applications for our fall internship program as well! I can not wait to see the momentum gained by the addition of some next-generation fashion moguls! Stay tuned to see bios from our new crop of interns!

HAIR: Color Creation for 'Alice on Acid'

Aside from founder June Ann:  Hair Color and Ombre' Expert Kristen Parks was tasked with creating the hair color on model June Ann for the 'Alice on Acid' editorial shoot for geminijunemoon. Here is the process she went through to achieve that look.

Top Left:  Hair Inspiration by Bonnie McKee     Bottom Left and Right:  Beginning Hair Color

by Kristen Parks

When it comes to fun hair, 'Alice on Acid' editorial model and geminijunemoon founder June Ann has pushed me further than any client I’ve ever had. And for this, I am incredibly greatful. I feel like I can absolutely dub myself a Vivids Expert and the Best Ombre in St. Louis because of this woman.

With that being said, our last project, and in my mind our best, we came across many challenges, made plenty of discoveries, and overcame those challenges. I am incredibly proud of my latest color on June Ann! We were inspired by Bonnie Mckee’s fiery, sherberty ombre. And over the course of about 8 months, we finally achieved the look!

Before

When we decided to head towards this look, June Ann's canvas was a 3 Rv at the root, with a 5Rv, 10N, and Orange Vivids midshaft. This meant that there was absolutely no way this look was going to happen over night (literally, June Ann’s kept me at the salon all night before). We talked about the necessary steps I would need to take, as well as the products she needed to help keep her hair in great shape throughout the process.

I completely switched June Ann over to a Pravana colored canvas, which is the best decision I’ve ever made. The colors hold beautifully and keep her bright between her monthly visits. I sent her home with the Pravana Perfection Hair Masque and the Pureology Strength Cure Line. Both great for color, but also to fortify her hair and prepare it for what we had in store. I also have June Ann on a top secret washing schedule, which helps the color and health of her hair tremendously!

After Pravana artificial color remover

On our last visit we had several steps to reach our goal, but I was confident this was going to be the day!

I started with one round of the Pravana Artificial Color Remover. With this product, I HIGHLY recommend following the directions from start to finish! It’s an absolutely amazing product, as long as it’s used correctly! Once dried, I could immediately tell I reached a level I could use lightener on successfully.

I sectioned June Ann’s hair into four sections to apply Redken’s Flash Lift with 20 volume. I applied the lightener liberally from midshaft to ends (she is a natural level 9 and does NOT need any lightening at the scalp). I watched her hair closely for the target level and to maintain integrity of the hair. After 20 minutes she was ready to be rinsed and dried completely for the next steps.

After lightener

Again, I sectioned June Ann’s hair into 4 sections. If your client has thick hair, definitely switch to 5 sections. I take ¼” subsections, apply Formula 1 and comb it down. I then feather Formula 2 down the strand about 3 inches. And when I say feather, I MEAN FEATHER. I followed that up with Formula 3, again super feather that stuff! I do all my feathering by hand and with a tint brush) I left the ends alone until after we rinsed. Here are the formulas I used and where:

Formula 1 Roots (half an inch) Pravana Chromasilk .3 oz 7 CR + .2 oz 7RBV + .75 oz 10 volume
Formula 2 Midshaft (about 3 inches) Pravana Vivids 4 oz Orange + .5 oz Red
Formula 3 Midshaft (about 2 inches directly below the above color) 2 oz of white conditioner + .5 oz of the above formula mixed in

The rinsing was probably the most stressful part of this whole process. Rinsing without bleeding, and working the arm mucles of June Ann. Make sure to have some help (if you’re not comfortable with asking your client) to hold the lightened ends up so they don’t absorb all the color being rinsed off and destroy all your hard work! I rinse all my Vivids work with as cool of water as my client can handle. Always warn the client of this! You don’t want to shock their brains out! And let the client tell you what they are comfortable with. Whats cold to you might be way too cold to them!

The gorgeous finish...

Next I dried June Ann's hair completely. I was stoked to see the outcome! It was beautiful and spot on. All that was left was the sherbert pink ends. With such fine, porous ends I find the color takes much better and lasts much longer to “burn in” the vivids. I mixed 1 oz of white conditioner with .1 oz Magenta Pravana Vivids, applied on the dry ends and let that sit for 5 minutes. I used a damp towel to wipe out the color and blow dried her ends again. I then used a 1.5 inch hot tools curling iron to seal the color on the ends in and set a perfect style for her beautiful new color!

Most recently, she is responsible for my most recent hair color that was created for the 'Alice in Acid' editorial produced by geminijunemoon. COLLABORATION: Rock Uniform Blog

I am so excited to announce that I have been asked to be a contributing writer for the Rock Uniform blog! I will be checking out fashion shows, presentations, and events and covering the spectacle with an honest voice. PHOTO SHOOT: Tuck Chaylor Shoot Prep

I'm so excited to announce that I will be shooting with Tuck Chaylor (www.tuckchaylor.tumblr.com) tomorrow! He shoots film and digital and his style is raw and edgy.  Perfect for the 'Alice in Wonderland on Acid'-look we are going for with this collaboration. We are shooting a fashion editorial using wardrobe pieces from the ethereal side of designer Lauren Bander (www.laurenbander.com) that are styled by Dwight Carter of Rock Uniform and using jewelry pieces from the distinctively creative mind of Theresa Wangia (www.beltshazzarjewels.com). For the beauty team, we have pulled in the uber-talented pair of Claire Oliver Fuller for hair and Mary Margaret for makeup (https://www.facebook.com/MwMakeupDesigns). We think we have the 3 locations set for the shoot. I am about to go and scout the last location right now as we speak. And then I am so excited to meet the photographer tonight and snap a few more artistic images tonight! STAY TUNED...

PHOTO SHOOT: ARCE Photos

Thursday night after a long day of work and then a solid trapeze class, I hauled ass on a hair and makeup look and got to squeeze in a shot with Randy from ARCE Photos out in Los Angeles, CA.  It was crazy, because right as I showed up, he organically opened the door and the other model that shot before me walked out.  It was just one of those serendipitous moments that you couldn't recreate any better.  We ended up shooting 3 different looks and as a photographer, Randy was super easy to work with and laid back.  He was completely professional the entire time we shot and it really was just so much fun.  I can't wait to see the images.  And there might even be a surprise coming to you from this shoot...so definitely stay tuned.

Here at geminijunemoon, we are uber-excited to welcome our first contributing collaborator, Rebecca-Emma Pink! I first met Pink (as I endearingly call her) in 2008 when I lived in New Orleans and I would travel to NYC to go paint the town red (or PINK!!!) with friends. Instantly, I could see that Pink has a soul made up of cosmic proportions and reflective sunshine and you just can't get enough of her. Once I moved to NYC, Pink and I would meet up after work and go for these always-refreshing long walks in Central Park and find secret hiding places to enjoy our vices. I always love how Pink is never scared to tackle the world head-on and it has been awesome watching her grow these past 6 years into an emerging DJ (Dollpartz and whiteowljaguar) on the NYC  and international electro-pop scene. She also keeps her finger on the pulse of NYC by working at one of the best underground music clubs in the NYC area, Verboten. She is the perfect fit for geminijunemoon, because Pink fearlessly embodies fashion + adventure in her own unique way. Look forward to reading all about Pink's creatively distinct monthly art installations at Verboten and her work behind the deck of some of the biggest and best parties in the world!  Pink will also be our resident Burning Man contributor!

PHOTO SHOOT: J. Steele Photography

J. Steele Photography

So last night I had my third photo shoot in three days and this time I got to shoot for the first time with Jerry Steele.  I had definitely heard of him around the St. Louis model circuit as he had worked with local Playboy models, such as Kara Friedman, so I was really excited when my girlfriend Layla Linn had asked me if I wanted to crash her shoot!  I got to shoot in 5 different looks that were killer.  Jerry was super easy and fun to work with and he even uploads images automatically on an iPad as he shoots, so that you can review your work right there on the spot. Such a huge asset if you are a new model looking to build a portfolio.  You should definitely consider Jerry Steele!  I will put his social media information below so you can book a shoot with him!

As always when you shoot, one picture stands out from the rest and that is the image that I am sharing in this post.  It was the last look we shot and the last pose of this look as well and both Jerry and myself really loved this shot!  Hope you do too!

BRAND REVIEW: The gypsy side of GYPSAN!!!

This is how Gypsan arrives at your door...

All of my friends know that I'm a huge Free People fan and a sucker for anything in the bohemian style genre.  I like for my energy to flow through my clothes!    So, I came across Gypsan on Facebook and I immediately loved the style.  Their stuff is exactly what they say..."bohemian and boho chic clothing for women".  Not only is Gypsan fashionable, but they are also very earth-friendly and more of their clothing is being manufactured in the United States so that they can closely observe to make sure human rights and environmental laws are being followed.  And then on top of that they give back 5% of purchases to Big Brothers and Big Sisters.  They also have a campaign where Gypsan lovers can send in their photos to be used on the site!  That is one sexy package that this company has put together.

Outerwear: Swept Away Kimono (Gypsan)

Top: distressed tank (DaydreamerLA)

Bottom:  Embroidered Denim Short (Gypsan

Speaking of packages...a Gypsan package is one you definitely want.  I was so excited to see the most adorable package when I went to the office to get it.  It's no surprise that this company would be thoughtful...they have gone above and beyond in their business plan, so why would they not go above and beyond for something as simple as packaging?  Bravo, Gypsan!!!

When I went over to Gypsan and was looking for things to order, the first thing that caught my eye was the "Swept Away Kimono".  It was so gorgeous.  I loved the teal color that dominated the pattern and just knew it was the perfect outerwear piece for summer.  Yesterday, I decided to pair it with a Daydreamer LA top that I had bought at Urban Outfitters a few years ago.  And then for bottoms for that look, I had purchased the "Embroidered Denim Short" that are high waisted and super-distressed in all the right ways and have the most awesome subtle embroidered Aztec designs on the sides and back pocket.  And then of course, I throw on my go-to brown boots.

Top: Sweater (Sol)

Bottom: Indira Skort (Gypsan)

I also purchased the "Indira Skort", which are super comfortable and flowy and I love the multi-colored paisley design.  Today I paired that with a Sol sweater that I got at a headshop here in St. Louis (Sunshine Daydream) and those go-to brown boots again.

I also used that same "Swept Away Kimono" to style one of my looks for a photo shoot with Jerry Steele last night.  For that shot, I decided to pair the kimono with a bra and panty set from Simone Perele (favorite bra brand, by the way) and a pair of cream lace heels with an awesome wooden heel from Dolce Vita.  I absolutely loved the shot.  We used a fan to get some movement with the kimono and the photographer and I both agreed that this was THE SHOT!

Outerwear: Swept Away Kimono (Gypsan)

Lingerie: Trocadero sheer bra and panty (Simone Perele)

Shoes:  Dolce Vita

Make sure to follow Gypsan on their social media that I have listed below.  Although their price point is already stellar (~$15-$80), they are constantly posting discount codes on their instagram account for 25% and the other day they even had a site wide 40% discount code!!!

PHOTO SHOOT: MOLL Mag World Cup Shoot

Yesterday I got to shoot with the lovely Ashley Salazar for the World Cup edition of MOLL Mag.  All the girls were decked out in bold colors representing countries of their own heritage.  For my first look, I went with a look for Italia!!!  I had a tight green Italia shirt paired with red lacy bottoms that I wore with red ringer knee high socks paired with spiky heels.  We shot that look by a set of sideline bleachers with a World Cup soccer ball.  I also got to shoot some cute video footage with a whistle that was super fun!  For my second look, I represented USA with the same red bottoms and a blue bikini top and blue knee high socks.  For this look, I got to play around in the net and then we took some shots laying down in the grass.  I'm so excited to see these images.  Ashley definitely goes the extra mile on set to get the lighting just perfect, so that you look your best.  She really brings her knowledge gained from being in front of the camera to make her a great photographer.  I really look forward to work with her again in the future and hopefully for MOLL Mag!

After the shoot and being skinny all day, I was ready to unwind.  So, I rushed out of the shoot and headed to Soulard to meet up with friends to go to the Cardinals game.  I got to meet this awesome dog, Raylan, who I have claimed as my new boyfriend.  He's muscular with a chest full of hair and wise beyond his years.  Once we got to the game, I definitely splurged by having a beer and a ballpark dog, but I deserved it.  Now, it's back to eating clean for my big editorial shoot this weekend.

LIFE: business cards, photo shoots, and so much more...

This last 24 hours has been a whirlwind.  Yesterday was a long day of hair and makeup and filming and shooting and catching up with new friends.  I can't say too much about the project, but yesterday we shot some really amazing fashion editorial images with wardrobe from local St. Louis designers and it was so awesome.  Really gave me a breath of fresh air to go into this new week.

I'm really glad I got this site and blog up and going.  It is something I have wanted to do for quite sometime and all the pieces finally came together.  Thanks to all my friends that have contacted me with such supportive comments.  Y'all are awesome.  With that being said, I ordered my business cards today with my new logo and I can't wait to start putting them in people's hands!!!

Tonight I am booked for a photo shoot for MOLL Mag's World Cup Issue.  Normally, I do not shoot the high-glamour Maxim-type images, but I'm really excited for this shoot.  Of course, I found some Italia colors to wear, so I can represent ma famiglia.  Hopefully I can remember to take a few candids and share with you tomorrow!  :)

The other project I am working on this week is a big fashion editorial shoot with none other than the Tuck Chaylor (www.tuckchaylor.com).  This shoot is going to be a huge collaborative force with the help of Dwight Carter bringing together amazing hair and makeup and wardrobe.   I am scouting locations this entire week, so if anyone knows of any old warehouses or cool sculptures or any locations that are begging for a model, please feel free to let me know!

Much love,

June Ann

meet geminijunemoon

Hi everyone!  My name is June Ann D'Angelo and upon much reflection over the past month and my upcoming 31st birthday this year, I have decided to shake things up a bit.  I have spent so much time in front of and behind the camera doing everything from styling my own shoots and finding my light to developing an eye to pick great images and creating interesting concepts to shoot.  Currently, I am filming the third season of a modeling competition show, Local Ambition, and I have been lucky to make some amazing contacts and I have also been able to try my artistic modeling skills in the fashion world.  I have to say I am enamored and a transition into the fashion world only makes sense.  Through filming this show, I have been given the amazing opportunity to rebuild my own portfolio with a fashion emphasis and start writing a regular fashion blog for a site.  I have also recently been contacted about possibly creating a lookbook for a T-shirt company.  So, already there are some fun projects on the horizon with my new venture and I look forward to keeping you updated on them through this blog.

On this blog I also hope to bring you favorite must-haves from some of the freshest fashion houses and brands that I think are cool.  My personal style definitely falls to the bohemian gypsy side of the universe, but I also love to play with different styles, especially in the rock genre.  I also love to mix and match different materials and I have been known to rock some leather and latex.

I will also add a dash of adventure to the blog as well.  I like to be on the go and out in the world, so I will make sure to post the funniest ramblings about my latest journeys, whether it by foot, bike, car, or boat!
